USMNT: This is a big test for the US. It will be the toughest game they face all summer as they play against an experienced squad with a majority of the players having World Cup experience. No one on this USMNT has ever played at the World Cup, so this game could tell us a lot. The Americans need to be ready for Uruguay’s physical game, how well they can shield the ball and how much they love playing a striker with his back to goal, which means the centre-backs have to close quickly and apply pressure from behind. An aging defense for Uruguay could open a window for the USMNT’s attacking speed to make a difference, but they need to play clean.

Uruguay: A lot has changed in this team since the last World Cup. Legendary coach Oscar Tabarez has left and has been replaced by former Inter Miami coach Diego Alonso. The former Valencia player made his name as a coach in Mexico but had a short stint in MLS before landing the job with his country’s national team. Since he’s been on board, he’s been looking inside from the outside when it comes to World Cup qualifying until quite comfortably booking a ticket. In this roster he has there are many veterans like Diego Godin, Martin Caceres, Matias Vecino and Edinson Cavani but there are also young, rising superstars. Darwin Nunez is the next great Uruguayan striker, Facundo Pellistri is a celebrated young attacker at Manchester United (he was on loan at Alaves last season) and midfield features established players such as Champions League winner Federico Valverde of Real Madrid and Nicolas en from River Plate la Cruz. Uruguay have won their last five games and conceded just once.

Only too much quality in attack is the difference as a defensive Uruguay gets a few goals conceded. Choose: Uruguay 2, United States 1
