Trump slams Eric Schmitt’s Missouri campaign for ‘major dishonesty in politics’

Former President Donald J. Trump on Sunday night criticized Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s US Senate campaign over a poll that Republican strategists told Breitbart News underestimated Trump’s support in the Show Me State to boost Schmitt’s numbers .

“Wow, great dishonesty in politics. Shame!” Trump wrote from the Remington Research Group Poll – commissioned by agents associated with the Schmitt campaign – in a Truth Social post. Remington was launched by political consulting firm Axiom Strategies, founded by Schmitt’s top adviser, Jeff Roe.

With voters taking their ballots in less than 36 hours, Trump’s post on Truth Social indicates it is highly unlikely he will support the attorney general in the race. After previously announcing he would not support Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) and telling voters to “forget” about them, only one candidate appears to be fighting for his support: former Gov. Eric Greitens (R-MO). ).

In the poll, Trump received 42 percent of the answers for the 2024 Republican primary, beating Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) with 18 percent and Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) with six percent. Another 17 percent supported other candidates, while the remaining 17 percent supported other potential candidates. But three Republican strategists told Breitbart News that Trump’s lead is even more impressive, saying the poll was wrong. Some suggested it was deliberately disingenuous to show Schmitt leading his opponents.

“This is a completely bogus poll commissioned by the RINO establishment that wants to get away from President Trump,” a Republican national agent who advises candidates in Missouri and Florida, among other places, told Breitbart News. “There’s no way Missouri, a deep Trump state, would ever vote for someone like Ron DeSantis. President Trump dominates the state and every other state in the country.”

“President Trump is way higher up in Missouri than this poll says and everyone knows it,” a second GOP strategist told Breitbart News. “It’s clear something sinister is going on in Missouri with people trying to undermine Trump’s return to the White House. Take this with a very large grain of salt.”

The survey shows that Schmitt leads the field with 34 percent, followed by Hartzler with 22 percent and Greitens with 18 percent.

The second strategist added:

If this poll accurately measured Trump’s support for 2024 and had it where it really isn’t where Schmitt needs it to make it appear like he’s leading, that means about 20 or more points out of the published ones Results of this poll must go in the direction of Trump – and that means Greitens would jump significantly higher and Schmitt would fall. Also, Hartzler’s number is far too high for this poll to be accurate. When Trump announced that he would not support them, crowds fled from their events and nobody went to them anymore. In reality, the field right now is probably in the low 30’s by a few points with Greitens, second place Schmitt somewhere in the high 20’s, and Hartzler in the low double digits or high single digits. And in reality, Trump’s support is well over 65 percent and maybe even over 70 percent – proving the pollster changed those numbers out of some ulterior motive.

“Something is wrong with these numbers and you have to wonder why,” a third strategist told Breitbart News.

“Perhaps it’s because Schmitt’s team can only alter a poll to make it appear as if they’re ahead in the post-election Missouri Senate primary, smashing Trump’s knees and perceived potential rivals.” in an upcoming bid in 2024,” the strategist added.

An Excalibur Strategies poll, obtained exclusively by Breitbart News, found that Friday night’s Greits was 34 percent, Schmitt was 30 percent and Hartzler was 21 percent.
