Cristiano Ronaldo beats Lionel Messi to be named ‘most powerful’ player at World Cup 2022 on Instagram

Portugal captain Ronaldo is the most influential player on the social media platform, ahead of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe after seeing a 48 percent surge in followers over the last year.

The Manchester United striker is now followed by 481 million people on Instagram and is believed to be the most influential player likely to feature at the World Cup in Qatar, according to the BBC.

The rankings are based on Nielsen’s influencer measurement tool, which evaluates the total number of followers, follower growth, engagement rate and average brand value per post on Instagram.

Ronaldo is believed to have a whopping postal value of $3,585,218 (£3,131,096).

His great rival Lionel Messi, who now has 360 million followers – a 38 percent growth over the last year – is second on the list.

The Argentina international also has a massive postal value of $2,631,388 (£2,298,083).

Messi is succeeded by two of his Paris Saint-Germain teammates, Brazil international Neymar and France striker Mbappe.

Real Madrid’s duo Vinicius Jr. (Brazil) and Karim Benzema (France) are fifth and sixth respectively, while Argentina’s Paulo Dybala is seventh.

Besides Ronaldo, the only other Premier League player in the top 10 is N’Golo Kante of Chelsea and France in eighth place.

International teammate Paul Pogba in his ninth, while Spain’s Sergio Ramos rounds out the top 10.
